Ben Weingarten to Newsmax: 'Finally Some Justice' With Willis Removal

By    |   Thursday, 19 December 2024 09:47 PM EST

Ben Weingarten, a senior writer at The Federalist, celebrated Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' removal from the Georgia election interference case against President-elect Donald Trump, telling Newsmax on Thursday that "finally, there's some justice."

"First of all, you mentioned that coordination with the White House," Weingarten told "The Chris Salcedo Show." "I mean, this looks like they were guilty of exactly what they accused Trump world of: racketeering, conspiracy to violate the rights of Donald Trump and all those in his orbit. And that goes for all of these lawfare inquisition cases that are now collapsing. You know, Judge [Scott F.] McAfee, the trial judge, said that an odor of mendacity loomed over that case based upon what he discovered and the ridiculous testimony that we heard from the DA and others in her orbit, [special prosecutor] Nathan Wade, etc., and now, finally, there's some justice for that with her being removed from the case.

"The only injustice is that the case itself hasn't been fully dismissed yet," he said. "Hopefully, this is the precursor to it, but, ultimately, this is only the beginning. The real hard part is punishing those who engaged in this lawfare inquisition and restitution for the people whose lives were upended by the inquisitions."

On Thursday, a state appeals court removed Willis from the case but did not dismiss the indictment, leaving its future up in the air.

The case against Trump and his co-defendants had already been largely paused as the Georgia Court of Appeals weighed the pretrial appeal. In light of the ruling, the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia will need to find another prosecutor to take over the case and decide whether to pursue it.

Weingarten also commented on Republicans who did not object to a provision to fund the Global Engagement Center (GEC), which was included in the 1,547-page defeated continuing resolution to fund the federal government.

"Effectively, it not only shows their contempt for the First Amendment, and that they want to use your taxpayer dollars to silence you, but it also shows they want to go after right-wing, conservative media, independent media, because that's who is targeted by the GEC via its funding of the likes of NewsGuard and the Global Disinformation Index, which endeavor to put out of business conservative and alternative media by destroying their business models, by going after the advertisers who would place ads on them," he said.

"So, at the end of the day, it represents, again, like the entire ruling class, contempt for millions of American people who dare to have different political opinions than they do," Weingarten added. "And I'm happy to say in the 116-page thinner version of this bill, there is no GEC extension now, but stand by. We'll see what happens when this goes before the Senate."
