Blaine Holt to Newsmax: Senators Got 'Doublespeak' on Balloon, Aircraft

By    |   Thursday, 16 February 2023 12:17 PM EST

Congress must keep up the pressure on President Joe Biden to answer questions about the Chinese spy balloon and three other unidentified aircraft that have been shot down this month, retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Blaine Holt said on Newsmax Thursday.

"Most of the senators that came out of the closed session briefing, the classified briefing, said they walked away with absolutely very little information, a whole lot of doublespeak," Holt said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "This is really dangerous stuff. We don't let other people's aircraft fly over our nation."

Further, when it's not known what was on the aircraft, "how can we honestly say that the American people were never in danger?" said Holt. "And then, why do we blow up crime scenes? Why don't we just shoot these things with bullets and recover them and then analyze them to find out what the Chinese strategic content is?"

When asked his opinion about China's motives, he said his "informed speculation" from working with Chinese issues over the years leads him to believe that with the aircraft, China is "probing and testing our defenses."

"They're probing and testing our reactions to things," he said. "They want to find out what's going to get us going, or if there are some elements of the administration that are compromised. They want to prove that to themselves before they take even more bold actions, and now we see the results."

And now, Russian bombers "are flying up and down the Alaskan coast, and it's getting much more dangerous," said Holt. "There's much more of an opportunity for miscalculation, and I don't see the aggressiveness in Congress and the zeal … our interests are not being protected."

He said he also finds it "alarming and disturbing" that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer hasn't had stronger comments about the balloon and other flying objects.

"We pay a trillion dollars a year in our security if you add defense, plus homeland security," he said. "We have a right to expect better performance than what we get."

Holt also commented on the Russia-Ukraine war, including the dropping numbers of people who support sending more money for aid to Ukraine.

"I think that those numbers are negatively correlated with how impoverished Americans are becoming through this economy that supports efforts like this, without a strategy and without a plan, and with no diplomacy," he said. "It's not that we don't support the Ukrainian people. We absolutely do. But it can't be a blank check because America's resources are finite, as hard as that is to believe, and we're feeling it every day."
