Former Kansas governor and Senator Sam Brownback told Newsmax on Saturday he hopes the Trump administration will be a global leader in reestablishing religious freedom as “a cornerstone human right.”
Next week, the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit will meet in Washington D.C to “bring together international religious freedom leaders, advocates from around the world, and a diverse coalition of civil society actors that passionately support religious freedom around the globe.” Brownback said that he has seen over the past 20 years the project has “been falling into despair" and the summit is an effort to reset the initiative.
"We're going to get back to the basics. We're going to fight to reestablish this and relaunch the Global Human Rights Project. The cornerstone being religious freedom and the U.N. Charter of Human Rights that was agreed to by all the countries in the world in 1948. That's what I really hope this administration will do on human rights. And it's desperately needed in the world,” Brownback said during an appearance on “America Right Now.”
