Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va., told Newsmax on Monday that President Donald Trump is using the promise of steep tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods to bring them to the negotiating table and let them know that "enough is enough" when it comes to the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs into the United States.
"I think the one thing that we need to remember is that our world leader is back in office," Miller said on "National Report." "He is strong, he is a wonderful negotiator, and he is committed to keeping our country safe and great. He is going to deliver on the promises that he made before he was elected.
"We've had many world leaders coming here before he's even taken office to meet with him and for the past four years we've had no trade negotiations, no trade anything."
"I'm very excited, being on [the] Ways and Means [committee] and the Trade subcommittee, to be able to be more active across the world," she continued. "It's so important, and he is very strong, working on securing our border. That's what a lot of this is about, is all of these illegal immigrants that have been allowed to come in from the north and the south, and he's saying, no more."
Trump was scheduled to speak with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday and Miller said the president is "bringing them to the table and letting them know that enough is enough and it's time that we equalize out and take care of our business, take care of our country, and not allow all of these people coming in."
"He is a negotiator and he's going to take care of us, just as he promised to do," Miller said.
The Mountain State congresswoman added that Trump was going to "protect" the nation from the threat of foreign-made fentanyl that has killed Americans in record numbers.
"I'm from West Virginia and we have had terrible problems with drug addiction and the free flowing of these drugs coming from the borders and up into our state," Miller said. "I worked on that for years when I was in the state House, and I'm working on it as well on a national level, and he is going to protect us."
The president paused his planned tariffs against Mexico on Monday to allow for one month of further negotiations after Sheinbaum agreed to send 10,000 members of her country's national guard to the border to combat drug trafficking. The tariffs against Canada and China were still slated to take effect on Tuesday.
