Caroline Sunshine to Newsmax: Trump Will Debate Harris If She's Dem Nominee

By    |   Tuesday, 30 July 2024 11:13 AM EDT

Caroline Sunshine, deputy communications director for the Trump campaign, told Newsmax on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump will "be happy" to debate Vice President Kamala Harris is she becomes the official Democrat nominee for president.

"When the Democrat Party, in all of their chaos and disarray, finally selects a nominee less than 100 days out from a general election, President Trump would be happy to debate any time, any place, anywhere," Sunshine said on "Wake Up America." "In fact, President Trump would be happy to have the honor of defeating not just one Democrat nominee, but two Democrat nominees in the same year."

Sunshine said the narrative on the left that Trump is afraid to debate Harris is coming from "a party that's in disarray and decline" and said the former president "is focused on being back to work for the American people" less than 100 days before the election.

"He's out on the road bringing his winning message to every corner of this country," Sunshine said. "As I said, you just saw him in Minnesota. You're not going to see her, if she is to be the nominee, in Alabama any time soon. But when the Democrats, as I said, work out their chaos and disarray, as we have seen, President Trump is the man who took a bullet for democracy.

"This is a man who will debate any time, any place, anywhere. We certainly look forward to it when the Democrat Party can get their act together."

Asked if the campaign wants to put an end to speculation that Trump is scared to debate Harris, Sunshine said that it wants to put an end to "the issues that are most important to the American people," such as "the invasion that's happening at our southern border" and Bidenomics, "where Americans can't afford their rent, can't afford their groceries."

"The Democrats always talk about being a threat to democracy, but you look at the way that they're going about this, this is fundamentally undemocratic and I don't think it should get whitewashed, and I don't think it should get pushed under the table," Sunshine said. "They can try to do this selection versus election, the liberal mainstream media can try to crown her and do it by coronation to make her the candidate, but that's really disrespectful to the will of the voters."
