Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Tuesday that he's starting to take questions from constituents who are asking what the point is of belonging to the U.S. anymore since they're "not being protected" by the federal government at the southern border.
Roy told "The Record With Greta Van Susteren" that local law enforcement and Texans are "tired of the talk" about the border and want somebody to step up and do something.
"I applaud Republicans for coming to the border, check it all out if you haven't seen it," Roy said. "But I gotta tell you, I've been on the phone with sheriffs, people at Border Patrol, people on the ground, ranchers who I talk to who are friends. And they're tired of all the press conferences. They're tired of all the tweets. I'm guilty of it. They're tired of all of the talk. They want their leaders in Washington to stand up and fight and to actually stop this terrible flood of our border that is causing untold harm."
Roy reacted to the news that top members of the Biden administration are scheduled for a trip to Mexico this week to talk border security with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
"This is such beyond the pale now. You can't even make this up, it's so bad," Roy added. "And some of my Texas constituents are starting to ask me, what point is there to being a part of the United States of America any longer? What's the purpose? We are not being protected by the federal government."
Further, Roy called it "purposeful abdication" of responsibility on behalf of the Biden administration.
"We've got such great patriots all across South Texas, who are doing their part, trying to hold the line in the complete absence of the federal government," Roy said. "Not only the absence, the purposeful abdication of their responsibility to secure the border. There's no other way to put it. They're trying to destroy this country by flooding the zone, overrunning the border, makings where we can't keep up and continue to try to just let as many people come to this country as possible in total violation of our laws."
