New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu endorsed former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the 2024 presidential election because of her "amazing connection" with voters, he told Newsmax on Tuesday.
"I've probably more than anybody in the country have spent time with Ron [DeSantis] and Chris [Christie] and Nikki on the campaign trail, dozens of their events all across the state," Sununu, who officially endorsed Haley during a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire, last week, told "Wake Up America."
"And Ron's great, Chris is great, there's a couple of things going on here, though, with Nikki, especially in the last month."
"She's making this amazing connection. And you know, where I'm from, the live free or die state, we're not about big government solutions and all that, and I think the argument she's making that's connecting with folks is that it's not just up to the federal government. It's up to the voters. It's up to the states. Let's decentralize power. Let's drain the swamp. Remember, we heard that one never really happened."
Sununu hailed Haley's having turned South Carolina "around."
"She understands that," he continued, "when things are back in state and local hands, that's what matters, and that's just really what's connecting with a lot of folks here."
Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, has "international experience, and as we know, the world's on fire right now, and she has a better international resume than absolutely anybody running," Sununu added.
"She understands that fine nuances in the details of what's happening in Israel, what's happening in the Ukraine."
Haley "absolutely" has more international experience than former President Donald Trump, Sununu added.
"She was the one driving all the policies," he said. "She was the one explaining to Trump the nuances of what's happening in the Middle East.
"She was on the front lines managing all of that."
