There are still too many questions remaining about the New Year's Day terrorist attack, but the FBI can't be trusted with its reports about the incident, former New York City Police Department Intelligence Division Sgt. Christopher Strom said on Newsmax Sunday.
For one, Strom told Newsmax's "Sunday Report," the FBI initially claimed that the attack, carried out when U.S. Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a truck into a crowd of Bourbon Street revelers and then opened fire on police, was not terrorism-related.
He added that agent Alethea Duncan, who made the initial claim, "really should resign."
But then, Strom said, those claims are "being exacerbated" with the FBI saying it did not see a connection with the Islamic State group or to outside funding or influence.
"[That] is really laughable," said Strom.
"I mean, they're talking about a bomb," he added, referring to improvised explosive devices found at the scene of the crime.
"They made a statement the other day about how it's a compound they haven't seen here in the United States," said Strom. "Well, I worked 15 months in Iraq, and I'm pretty familiar with most compounds.
"So we see here a homemade explosive device, which is also called TATP, which could be easily assembled, which is a triacetone triperoxide or is it C-4? And did he get it from a military base?"
That leaves even more questions, said Strom.
"I really don't believe anything they say anymore, meaning the FBI," he added.
Strom also spoke out about the 159 House Democrats who voted against the Laken Riley Act, named for the young woman who was killed by an immigrant who was in the United States illegally.
"They'd rather, you know, be on the wrong side of something that's just so basic," said Strom. "I mean, we're talking about human life, protecting our children, protecting the citizens ... I'm waiting for [border czar] Tom Homan.
"God willing, when he gets in, he goes to Chicago first, and he tests the water with that mayor up there ... we'll see who blinks first. And I know it's not going to be Tom Homan."
