Democrats are staging a "political coup" against President Joe Biden, Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller told Newsmax.
Miller was responding to news reports that President Barack Obama said Biden should reconsider his reelection because his path to victory is diminished.
"Well this makes it official," Miller told "Newsline." "They're not even stabbing Joe Biden in the back. They're stabbing him right in the chest.
"This is a political coup."
The Washington Post reported Thursday, quoting sources close to Obama, that the former president believes Biden, his vice president for eight years, does not have a viable path to defeating Trump in November.
"You can't, as a Democrat or a member of the media, say that Joe Biden has to drop out of the race, but then he stays in as president," Miller said. "That's saying he's too mentally incompetent to run the country, and I don't think he wants to do that."
Biden's campaign told reporters Thursday that it is not working on any scenarios in which he does not remain at the top of the ticket.
Meanwhile, with Biden sidelined at this time after being diagnosed with COVID-19, there are questions about who is running the country, according to Miller.
Trump, who will speak at the Republican National Convention on Thursday while officially accepting his party's nomination, will display the strength and leadership he will bring to the White House, Miller previewed.
But it is "scary" that Democrats are engaged in removing Biden from his campaign, he added.
"If you're one of our adversaries, if you're the ayatollah, if you're President Xi [Jinping], if you're President [Vladimir] Putin, you're looking at the U.S. and saying, We're going to take advantage of these guys right now," Miller warned.
