Dan Rice to Newsmax: US Must Ship More Patriot Missiles to Ukraine

By    |   Saturday, 05 July 2025 12:36 PM EDT

The U.S. needs to send more Patriot missiles to Ukraine, Dan Rice, former special adviser for Ukraine's armed forces and president of American University Kyiv, told Newsmax Saturday.

"We have to define our policy and we have to implement it right now," Rice told "America Right Now."

"Ukraine is being assaulted by ballistic missiles from Russia that can only be defended by Patriots. Only we can supply them."

Germany reportedly is attempting to purchase Patriot missiles from the U.S. to supply to Ukraine after reports surfaced on Tuesday that the Trump administration had decided to withhold at least some of the air defense missiles that were earlier promised to Ukraine. Sources indicated the U.S. stockpile of the missiles reached a low point.

But Rice said he had information from Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, that the U.S. stockpile is not too low.

McCaul posted on X Friday: "Senior U.S. military officials have concluded that providing these critical weapons to Ukraine will not endanger U.S. readiness, so I urge the administration to quickly get the pipeline back up and running. Pentagon officials halting weapons only weakens President [Donald] Trump's noble attempts at peace."

Regardless, said Rice, Ukraine needs critical military support.

"It's a slaughterhouse of innocent civilians. [Russian President Vladimir] Putin gets off the phone call with President Trump and immediately fires off 550 Shaheds and then a dozen ballistic missiles," he said, referring to Russian-made drones.

"Only we can defend against these ballistic missiles targeting civilian areas. We need to approve defensive weapons like Patriot immediately.

"We also have to put increased military aid and sanctions on immediately. Putin only understands force. Give him force," Rice said.

Trump told reporters Friday that he believes Ukraine needs more of the "amazing" missiles. Attempts to get Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to a bargaining table to end the military conflict following Russia's invasion have been met with little success.
