Former Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif, told Newsmax on Monday that Fox News is ripe to "lose a lot of viewers" following top host Tucker Carlson's abrupt departure.
Joining "Carl Higbie FRONTLINE," the CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group described the move as "a major, major shakeup" that could impact what channel conservative viewers watch.
"If you go back to the aftermath of the 2020 election — I'm not making this up, the numbers speak for themselves — clearly Fox News lost a tremendous number of viewers to Newsmax," Nunes recalled.
Now, with Carlson exiting, Nunes believes it could happen again.
"I think Fox News is definitely in a position here — that they could lose a lot of viewers," he concluded. "And look, as someone at Truth Social, ... we're here for everybody. We're here for the whole ecosystem, and I can just tell you this is a major, major shakeup."
Nunes explained that the viability of alternative media has changed since the last major changes at Fox when former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes left alongside legendary host Bill O'Reilly within a short period.
"This is not five or six years ago... the landscape has changed," Nunes explained. "Now you have companies like Truth Social, like Rumble or Newsmax, standing there — kind of as pillars — basically giving conservatives another place to go."
"I don't think this is just a couple-day issue," he continued. "I think it's going to be fascinating to watch what happens over the next year because there's a whole lot that comes from this."
The Truth Social head also suggested that viewers would be able to see the effect of Carlson's departure "within the coming weeks" as ratings begin to pour in.
"It'll be interesting a week from today to see what happens," Nunes stated.
