Dick Morris to Newsmax: McConnell Discounting Red Wave Is 'Disgraceful'

By    |   Tuesday, 23 August 2022 06:15 PM EDT

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., would rather remain minority leader than see America First candidates backed by former President Donald Trump win, according to former presidential campaign adviser Dick Morris on Newsmax.

Morris' comments come after McConnell has been criticized for tamping down on red wave enthusiasm in these midterm elections.

"In the primaries, every one of these states had a McConnell candidate and a Trump candidate and the Trump candidate always beat the McConnell candidate, and now McConnell is trying to stop them from taking their seats by saying they have no chance to win," Morris told Tuesday's "The Chris Salcedo Show."

"The fact is that he would prefer to be the minority leader of the Republican Party to not being the leader and having the Republicans keep the majority and have somebody else become the majority leader, and it's disgraceful."

Morris noted a Senate held by Trump candidates would move to unseat McConnell as the party's leader and put in an America First majority leader — an eventuality McConnell now fears, according to Morris.

Also, there is in-fighting among Democrats to watch, including progressives against moderates in the final midterm primaries, Morris added.

"The Democratic Party has moved further and further to the left and ultimately suicidally," Morris told host Chris Salcedo. "So the Democrats are on track to being unable to elect anyone they nominate."
