Presidential adviser Dick Morris told Newsmax on Saturday that the catastrophic damage of the fires in Los Angeles will have "enormous political impact" being that Southern California is the "base of the Democratic Party in the state."
As of Saturday, the two main fires ravaging Los Angeles, Palisades, and Eaton have consumed more than 35,000 acres, destroyed over 12,000 structures, killed 11 people, and forced almost 200,000 others to evacuate their homes. Morris said the staggering level of destruction "will actually move California to the Republicans."
"Maybe not the whole state, maybe not all of it. But I think this this tragedy, this disaster, this management catastrophe — we cannot underestimate its political impact," Morris said during an appearance on "Saturday Report."
"And with Southern California being the base of the Democratic Party in the state, I think that it's going to have an enormous impact."
Morris said many Californians have noted it was Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom who destroyed dams and released millions of cubic feet of snowmelt into the Pacific Ocean while the Democrat mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, "cut the fire department budget by $18 million."
"It's the epitome of putting the needs of the green community and their ideological preferences ahead of the needs of the people of Los Angeles. And I think there's going to be a hell of a political price to pay for this," he added.
