With just hours before the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucus kicks off the 2024 GOP presidential primary cycle, former President Donald Trump returned to the campaign stump in the state, saying the freezing cold and polar vortex will not stop his caucus.
"You have to see what's outside, we have a lot of people here: If this is any indication, the storm has had zero effect," Trump told his campaign rally in Indianola, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon, which aired live and in its entirely on Newsmax and simulcast on Newsmax2 online streaming platform. "This is tremendous.
"They always say you have very hardy people. I've heard that. You're hardy people. We like hardy people."
Trump is leading the polls by a wide margin, but he is leaving nothing to chance, telling his caucus to show up Monday night at their caucus sites.
"So brave the weather and go out and save America, because that's what you're doing," Trump said. "This is really about saving our country.
"With your vote, we're going to defeat crooked Joe Biden, and we're going to take back the White House," Trump added to wild cheers.
Trump vowed to give Indianola a "long version" of his stump speech, which included a number of off-teleprompter moments.
"We need borders; we need fair elections: Those are the two primary things, everything else can straighten itself out," Trump said. "But we've got to have strong borders, so we have to have fair and free elections, or we don't have a country.
"But these caucuses are your personal chance to score the ultimate victory over the liars, cheaters, thugs, perverts, frauds, crooks, freaks, creeps, and other quite nice people.
"That's a mouthful, but some of them are wonderful people, I'm sure. Remember that one? But some of them are nice."
Those remarks were hearkening back to his original border comments on illegals streaming across the border before the 2016 GOP presidential primary, and Trump joked, "that was the one piece I should have left out of that first speech."
