Trump to Newsmax: Biden Found With Classified Docs

By    |   Monday, 05 February 2024 08:28 PM EST

Donald Trump told Newsmax on Wednesday that Democrats "died" when it was discovered President Joe Biden possessed classified documents when he was vice president and senator at the same time he was being prosecuted for having the same from his presidency.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 40 counts regarding his handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida brought by Department of Justice (DOJ) special counsel Jack Smith. Trump said his actions are covered under the Presidential Records Act, but Biden, who is being investigated by DOJ special counsel Robert Hur, was not as a vice president and senator.

"I understand they're going to exonerate [Biden]," Trump said in an exclusive sit-down interview with "Rob Schmitt Tonight." He had 10 times the number of boxes. He sent them to Chinatown, and he gets money from China. He had them under his crazy Corvette. Totally, the garage door [at Biden's Wilmington, Delaware, home] was open all the time. And I heard today that they're going to exonerate him. But me, they're not going to exonerate?"

Trump said Democrats were crushed when they found out Biden was in possession of classified documents because they now faced a dilemma: How could they prosecute him for doing the same thing Biden did, even though Trump had protection from the Presidential Records Act and Biden did not?

"They died when they found out he had [them]. He had 10 times more than me, and he took them when he was a senator. I'm protected by the Presidential Records Act. I have no fear of that. He stole them, and he was a senator. I remember when [Illinois Democrat Sen.] Dick Durbin was being interviewed, he said, no way he took him. He's a senator. He said, no way you can't do that. No, no, he didn't believe it. Then when he found out he did, he said, I don't know, I don't want to get involved in this. No, what [Biden] did is incredible.

"But he also wasn't covered by the Presidential Records Act as a vice president. See, I'm covered by the Presidential Records Act. It was meant for this. … Joe Biden isn't. He's not covered. … I don't believe they'll be able to get away with that. I don't think they can say, he's fine, but I'm not."
