Trump to Newsmax: I'll Do a Super Bowl Interview for Biden

By    |   Monday, 05 February 2024 04:06 PM EST

Former President Donald Trump said 81-year-old President Joe Biden was "wise" to turn down the opportunity to speak to the American people during the upcoming Super Bowl broadcast.

"He just turned down the Super Bowl, which I think was a very wise thing," Trump told Newsmax's Rob Schmitt in an exclusive interview on Monday. "[Because] he can't put two sentences together."

The White House on Sunday told Variety that Biden will pass on the annual Super Bowl pregame interview for the second straight year.

Before Biden, incumbent presidents used the Super Bowl interview to help boost polling numbers.

Schmitt asked Trump, how could a president turn down the opportunity to speak during a broadcast that last year reached 115 million viewers in the U.S., according to Statista.

"Well, I don't know, but I accepted it," Trump said. "I said, 'I'll take your place.' Maybe they'd get higher ratings."

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday in Las Vegas.
