N.J. Mayor to Newsmax: Fed Response to Drones 'Not Good Enough'

By    |   Wednesday, 18 December 2024 02:04 PM EST

The city of Mendham Borough, N.J., has started its own task force to "prove or disprove exactly what this is in the sky," said its mayor, Christine Serrano Glassner, to Newsmax as recent reports of unexplained drone sightings have flustered residents and lawmakers.

"We are still seeing drones in our community, and people are still trying to track them," Serrano Glassner told "National Report."

"We started our own task force, Skywatch task force. And so scientifically, we're going to try to prove or disprove exactly what this is in the sky."

Asked earlier this week what behind the drones, President Joe Biden told reporters: "Nothing nefarious, apparently, but they're checking it all out." He added that authorities are "following this closely," but so far there is "no sense of danger."

President-elect Donald Trump, meanwhile, has insisted that "something strange is going on" claimed government officials "don't want to tell the people" what's happening.

"I think they'd be better off saying what it is," Trump said. "Our military knows, and our president knows, and for some reason they want to keep people in suspense."

Serrano Glassner said she was on a call the other day for mayors that the federal government put on, "and it was just pablum.

"Once again, they're telling us, really, there's nothing to worry about. The problem is, is they don't know, and they admit that they don't know. They're saying that these drones are absolutely commercial, or they or they are hobbyists, or they are the police department," she told Newsmax.

"I can tell you that our police department doesn't have any drones, and we have very few people in town that have drones. The drones that we've been seeing are much, much larger, and we see multiple of them. And so, they will be flying in a coordinated fashion. And you know that it's a drone, because it's hovering. It's not a helicopter. You would hear it if it was a helicopter. They're much, much lower to the ground."

She said she's held a public meeting in town, "and we're prepping all of our residents who want to be a part of our task force, and we've asked them all to download some kind of a plane finding app, because that helps you decide is it a plane or is it a drone, because once you shine that app on what's in the sky, if it's a drone, you get no information on it and you can still see it with your eyes.

"So very simply, the federal government is not telling us what we need to hear. This has been going on for about a month now, and they only started paying attention to this maybe a week ago. Not good enough for my town."
