Rep. Stefanik Calls on GOP Candidates to Unify Behind Trump

By    |   Monday, 15 January 2024 10:45 PM EST

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., chair of the House Republican Conference, said Monday night that GOP primary candidates who finished behind Donald Trump during the Iowa caucuses should drop out of the race and unify behind the former president.

"Congratulations to President Donald Trump on his massive victory at the Iowa Caucuses!" Stefanik wrote in a news release posted on her X account. "Thank you to the people of Iowa for your incredible support in delivering this historic win.

"As I have said for over a year, President Trump will be our Republican nominee and will defeat Joe Biden in November. I am calling on every other candidate – all of whom have no chance to win – to drop out so we can unify and immediately rally behind President Trump so that we can focus on 100% of our resources on defeating Joe Biden to Save America."

Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for Trump's 2024 campaign, agreed with Stefanik during an appearance on Newsmax.

"We've been saying this for months that Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley especially are wasting their time," Leavitt said during Newsmax's coverage of the Iowa caucuses. "They are wasting money. They're wasting donors' precious resources on a campaign that's hardly making it out of Iowa and isn't going to go anywhere after this. They must do what is best for our party and that is unite around President Trump. At the end of the day, our real opponent here is Joe Biden. We have a country to save. The amount of damage that Biden has done in the past three years is really unfathomable. Can we imagine if he was elected for another four? All of the time we can have as Republicans to unite our party and to use donor resources to take that fight to the far-left Democrats – Joe Biden's campaign just announced a massive campaign hall; in one quarter, they raised $100 million.

"We have a real fight on our hands heading into November. We cannot afford to lose it. If Nikki Haley and Ron [DeSantis] really care about the future of America, they'll do what's best, they'll put their egos and their consultant checks aside, and they will unify and drop out of this race."
