Rep. Burlison to Newsmax: Government Agencies Blocked Biden Probe

By    |   Monday, 30 December 2024 08:39 PM EST

During an appearance Monday on Newsmax, Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., accused multiple government agencies of obstructing congressional investigations into alleged corruption involving President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.

Speaking on "The Record With Greta Van Susteren," Burlison detailed hurdles faced by investigators, including delayed access to financial records, photographs, and internal reports.

Burlison's comments followed the release of previously unseen photos by the National Archives and Records Administration. The images, obtained through a public records request by a conservative legal group, show Joe Biden meeting with some of Hunter Biden's Chinese business associates during an official visit to China.

Other photos reportedly depict Hunter Biden meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping and other high-ranking officials, CNN reported.

"We were not aware of these photos," Burlison said. "But this would have lended credibility to our investigation, just added to our investigation. We had a lot of evidence of this corruption."

He cited a "paper trail" that included WhatsApp messages, checks, bank statements, and suspicious activity reports. "A photo says a thousand words, and it's good that these photos are finally released."

Burlison said Congress was initially denied access to suspicious activity reports and other documents, requiring investigators to provide proof of their existence and issue subpoenas.

"The only way we were able to see them was to go in the basement of the Treasury, and that took months," he said.

The congressman further criticized the FBI and the Department of Justice for allegedly impeding the investigation. He claimed that a DOJ attorney tipped off the Biden family before a planned raid on Hunter Biden's storage unit, calling it "unacceptable behavior from an agency that's supposed to be nonpartisan."

"The federal government that's supposed to be working for you and me and be independent of politics" was blocking Congress, he said. "Every agency has become a partisan tool."

He connected the issue to broader public dissatisfaction, suggesting it influenced Donald Trump's election.

"The American people voted the way they did because they saw that every agency has become a partisan tool," Burlison said. "They're used to seeing a federal government where Lady Justice is blind."

The congressman also referenced IRS whistleblowers who alleged that their investigation into Hunter Biden was obstructed at multiple levels.

"They told us how they were blocked every step of the way by the Department of Justice and the FBI," he said.

Burlison emphasized the need for accountability, saying that Congress would continue investigating allegations of corruption and federal agency misconduct.
