Rep. Houchin to Newsmax: Give Trump Opportunity to Hit Ground Running

By    |   Wednesday, 18 December 2024 01:29 PM EST

Rep. Erin Houchin, R-Ind., told Newsmax Wednesday she wants to ensure Congress sets up President-elect Donald Trump for success.

Appearing on "National Report," Houchin said she does not want to see a government shutdown, especially around the holidays, given the negative impact it would have on the military and border patrol.

The Indiana congresswoman said she received a copy of the 1,500-page bill last night and was going through it with her staff.

"We want to make sure that we understand what is in there before we make a decision," Houchin said. "There are always going to be things that we like and we don't like in bills like this. I certainly understand and appreciate the concerns that have been shared by some of my colleagues. And we're going to be just working our way through it to see exactly what we're dealing with."

Houchin said she wants to make sure the bill gives Trump an opportunity to get started on his agenda as quickly as possible.

"If we're going to do a funding extension, we need to give him a little bit of runway after the first of the year to to hit the ground running," Houchin said.
