Three-term Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who lost his bid for reelection Tuesday, doesn't share Ohioans' values, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose told Newsmax on Wednesday.
Republican Bernie Moreno unseated Brown in Tuesday's election, flipping the seat and giving the GOP control of the chamber. On "Newsline," LaRose said, "This is huge. So happy for my friend Bernie Moreno. Even more happy for the people of Ohio and the United States. I had the chance to travel with Bernie over the last couple of weeks out on the campaign trail, sort of helping as his warm-up act.
"And I often said to people, 'It's going to be our job to fire Sherrod Brown so that Bernie Moreno can go to Washington, D.C. and fire Chuck Schumer.' And now that's exactly what's going to happen."
LaRose continued: "And listen, we rid ourselves of an embarrassment. Sherrod Brown had been misrepresenting Ohio for a longtime, by the way, a former occupant of this office, he was previously the Ohio secretary of state. But he was a coastal liberal, not a Midwestern working man's kind of Democrat. The way he portrayed himself, Ohioans finally got wise to that and got rid of him last night."
LaRose said he believes Brown's loss is part of a bigger trend, as Ohio Democrats have realized the Democratic Party has left them.
"People that are concerned about feeding their families and having a good, safe neighborhood looked at what the National Democratic Party stood for: men in women's bathrooms," he said. "And climate change madness. And open borders. And they said, 'Well, wait a second. I don't care what my union hall tells me, I can't vote for that.'
"The Democrats have moved far to the left and that's why we, the Republicans, are now the party of working-class Ohioans. And I think it's going to stay that way."
