Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, told Newsmax on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, that Christians have developed a “very superficial view of Christmas” that should be dispelled.
Speaking on “Newsline” alongside Rabbi Yaarov Menken, Pavone said that “a lot of people have a very superficial view of Christmas.”
“Yes, it's about joy and generosity and getting together with friends and family,” but Pavone questioned how people get to “the joy and peace of Christmas,” answering that “the Christian message is that this is not just about the birth of a child, but about the birth of an entire new humanity.”
Pavone added, “Jesus brings us a whole new way of life which he asks us to embrace. So it's not like God just coming down and patting us on the back and, you know, putting kind of like Christmas decorations on whatever beliefs we want to have or whatever way of life we want to live.”
He continued, “It’s Jesus coming to us and saying, Look, I created you. Here's the way to live, to find not only happiness in this life, but life eternal. I want to save you from your sins, but I can't do that if you're going to still hold on to your sins. So you have to adopt my way of life.’”
Pavone said, “It’s actually sharing the life of God. And this is the deepest desire of human hearts from the beginning of history.”
