The high turnout in early voting in Georgia's election shows Republicans responded overwhelmingly to calls to vote early, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones told Newsmax on Tuesday.
"I think that was the message that the Republican Party was putting out there," Jones told Tuesday's "National Report." "We put a strong emphasis on us getting people out to vote and getting and banking your vote early and not trying to depend on Election Day."
Republicans were motivated as well because they see the issues with the economy and the border, Jones said.
"They're feeling it in their pocketbooks every day and their wallets, and taking home less in their paychecks," he said. "There's a combination of people being motivated, a combination of a real effort to try to push people to the polls early."
Further, Georgia's laws have made it easier for all to vote, Jones said.
"I've never seen the turnout that we've had in all the years I've been involved in politics," he said. "Like I said, over 4 million people have voted. That's over 50% of our voting population, so it's been a good thing."
Republicans also got a "big win" Monday in the Georgia Supreme Court, which ruled no absentee ballots can be accepted after 7 p.m. on Election Day, ruling against a push to allow the ballots to be accepted through the weekend.
"It was a fair decision," Jones said. "I mean, we've had early voting for almost a month now. We've had record turnout, over 4 million votes cast in the early voting process, and we've had weekend voting. You know, we've had, you know, just everything possible to make it make the election process just as fair and open as possible."
And now that Election Day has arrived, "I think we're going to have another good turnout day today. And I feel real good about Donald Trump's chances of winning Georgia," Jones said.
