Attorney Gloria Allred pushed back Thursday against comments by fellow lawyer Alan Dershowitz suggesting that many of Jeffrey Epstein's victims were sex workers, telling Newsmax such claims are unfair and deeply harmful to survivors.
Allred appeared on "Rob Schmitt Tonight" one day after Dershowitz told Newsmax there were only a "relatively small number of real victims" of the late sex offender, claiming that "many of these were sex workers" from erotic massage parlors.
Allred, who represents more than two dozen Epstein victims, said the characterization is wrong.
"Well, all I can tell you is that my clients were not sex workers," she said.
"Some of them were underage. Some of them were adult females," Allred continued.
"And they were vulnerable — all of them. They were recruited by Epstein because they were vulnerable," she said.
"And they were recruited sometimes by other girls or women who may have been victims themselves," Allred continued.
"I don't think there should be an attack on survivors at this point. They've endured so much, and they are still suffering."
She said her clients have been "retraumatized" by what she called a betrayal by the Justice Department, which she said promised to protect victims.
Allred noted the DOJ missed December deadlines under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, citing the need for redactions to protect victims' identities, then released documents last Friday that exposed sensitive personal information anyway.
"Instead of redacting them, they did a dump," she said, adding that the release included "names, personal information, often photos, emails, direct messages, texts, [and] sometimes passport information."
She called the disclosure "a disaster and traumatizing," saying survivors "didn't deserve to be revictimized like this."
Allred said that remains her focus as she again blasted attempts to portray Epstein victims as anything other than survivors.
"The name-calling of victims, trying to dehumanize them or suggesting that they wanted it, they consented, that it was only a transaction — it's really unfair to these victims," she said.
"And it's just not right."
