Political analyst Mark Halperin told Newsmax on Friday that Democrats continue to struggle in national polling because they cannot “compete right now on the things that matter.”
A new poll released on Thursday showed that the Democratic Party has a 57% unfavorable rating, which is a 16-year high. As the party looks to reset after ceding all three branches of government to the GOP, the Democrats are considering either Ken Martin or Ben Wikler to be the next chair of the DNC. Halperin said, “They’re tacticians, they’re not national names."
“But no matter who wins, I don't think it's going to affect the ability of the Democratic Party to compete right now on the things that matter,” Halperin said during an appearance on “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”
Former deputy press secretary at the White House Hogan Gidley joined the conversation and said President Donald Trump won by being able to “highlight their problems.”
“Donald Trump was able to say, Wait a minute, you guys have been living under the thumb of Joe Biden for the last several years. You can't afford gas and groceries. We have wars breaking out all over the world. Crime is rampant in our city streets. Problems along the southern border. They're flooding into our communities using our resources. They don't have the right to be here. Every murder, every rape, every burglary, every assault, all 100% preventable.
"The referendum wasn't on Donald Trump. It was on the Democrat Party."
