Huckabee to Newsmax: University Presidents 'Shameful' at Hearing

By    |   Wednesday, 06 December 2023 08:58 PM EST

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told Newsmax on Wednesday that the refusal of three American university presidents to condemn antisemitism recently was "shameful."

Joining "Rob Schmitt Tonight," Huckabee reacted to the controversial House Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing Tuesday on rising harassment, protests, and antisemitism on college campuses.

M. Elizabeth Magill, president of the University of Pennsylvania; Dr. Claudine Gay, president of Harvard University; and Dr. Sally Kornbluth, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, attended the event.

"It was one of the most shameful things I've ever seen," Huckabee said about the trio not directly condemning calls on their campuses for a Jewish genocide. "And to think that parents across America are spending north of $70,000 to send their little darlings to one of these schools — that's disturbing."

The presidents have been slammed by both sides of the aisle, including the White House, for their indirect answers to House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York during the hearing when asked about the incidents.

Harvard's president argued Wednesday that her comments were misconstrued, accusing people of confusing "a right to free expression with the idea that Harvard will condone calls for violence against Jewish students."

"I can't believe people who are supposed to be so smart are instead so smug and so just plain stupid and insensitive when it comes to the idea of murdering Jewish people," Huckabee said. "Good gosh, that should have been an easy one."

The presidents should have answered, "We don't tolerate calling for the murder of Jews, or for that matter, anybody else," he added.
