Border czar Tom Homan told Newsmax on Tuesday that he's seen "stuff" that suggests the person responsible for leaking Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid plans to the Los Angeles Times is connected to the FBI.
The LA Times reported on Friday that ICE officials were planning a "large-scale" immigration raid in the Los Angeles area, which was revealed by an internal government document reviewed by the newspaper. The publication did not say how it was able to review these plans, but the article prompted Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to accuse the FBI of being "corrupt."
"I've been on several of these operations," Homan said on "Wake Up America" on Tuesday. "The men and women of the FBI, they're great patriots. And they're out there helping us to take public safety threats off the street."
Homan said according to Noem, the leak of information about the Los Angeles raids "appears to be someone in the FBI," and he added, "Stuff that I've seen leads us to believe it's FBI."
He added, "I've talked to the deputy attorney general; he's opened up a criminal investigation to hold that person responsible."
Homan continued, "I don't care what the political beliefs are" behind the leak. "I don't care if they think they're doing the right thing by … arresting public safety threats that are here illegally. The thing is, though, when they leak this information, it puts officers at great risk. It's only a matter of time before officers get ambushed by someone."
He added, "This is not a joke. And when we find out who this is and we can prove who it is, they will be criminally investigated and prosecuted. And I have no regrets for that. They need to be held criminally responsible for this."
