The House impeachment inquiry announced Tuesday by Speaker Kevin McCarthy allows congressional leaders such as Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and Oversight Chairman James Comer more subpoena authority as they dig more deeply into the actions of President Joe Biden and his family members, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi tells Newsmax.
Bondi told "Newsline" that the Bidens and others around them will "have to comply with subpoenas, or they could be held in contempt."
"They become the investigators, these great members of Congress," Bondi said. "We've all seen the work Jim Jordan's done for years fighting this, so this gives them the authority they need."
Public hearings will be held, but before that, "they will start an investigative process which gives them the right to subpoena bank records, which are highly relevant here."
Bondi pointed out that the Treasury Department has flagged the activities of nine Biden family members, "who they're saying are documented to have taken hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, from foreign entities when Joe Biden was vice president alone."
McCarthy also made a "great point" when he noted there have been more than 150 financial flags to Treasury regarding suspicious activities from the Bidens, Bondi said.
"That's unbelievable to me that's happening and nothing has happened [to them] so far," she said.
Meanwhile, the National Archives and Records Administration [NARA] acknowledged it has about 5,400 emails that potentially show President Joe Biden hid behind pseudonyms, but will "try to protect [Barack] Obama and Biden with everything they've got," Bondi said.
She also said she agrees with former President Donald Trump's call for U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, a former assistant public defender who was nominated to the bench by Obama and who stands out as one of the toughest judges against Jan. 6 defendants, to recuse herself from his case in Washington, D.C.
"It's just the perception that she could not be partial that she has a bias against President Trump," Bondi said. "Here we have an actual bias based on statements that she's made against the president and the co-defendants. It's not a close legal call."
If Chutkan does not recuse herself, Trump's attorneys may be able to file to get her off the case if it goes to trial, Bondi said.
"If he was convicted, it would 100% be reversed, I have no doubt in my mind," she added. "The problem is they're trying to get him tried before the election and wrongfully convicted."
