President Donald Trump is a businessman who is "looking at the safety and security of our citizens in so many different ways," Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Mich., said Monday on Newsmax.
"He brings that business acumen and way of getting things done to the White House," Bergman told "National Report."
"And, boy, over the last four years, we've never seen a bigger difference between people who actually understood business and the last administration, where there was no leadership, no business acumen, no nothing that was the right skill sets needed in a president of the United States," he added.
What Trump is doing with tariffs on Mexico and Canada is for the "safety and security of our citizens in so many different ways," said Bergman.
"We know that the VEOs, the violent extremist organizations, other entities, the cartels, they look at us, at our borders, north and south as a sieve," he said. "And it's just been porous through. So the first step that the president is bringing to both Canada and Mexico is to say 'We're going to secure our borders, and we're going to make sure that we want to work with you to secure the trade necessary' so that the countries can, if you will, negotiate every day to do the right thing for our citizens here and the Mexican government for theirs, or the Canadian government for theirs.
"I'm so excited. And you see the energy all over the place to have the Trump administration actually saying they were going to do something and then do it."
