Rep. Jack Bergman to Newsmax: Parts of Mich. Feel 'Disenfranchised' by Dems

By    |   Tuesday, 05 November 2024 10:46 AM EST

Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Mich., told Newsmax on Tuesday that there are voting blocs within his home state of Michigan that feel "disenfranchised" by the Democrats and they could make the difference when it comes to the outcome of the presidential race in the Great Lakes State.

"Obviously, Michigan is geographically very dispersed and different voter blocs, but southeast Michigan, especially that voter turnout down there, the people of the Detroit area and the surrounding suburbs — let's say inside [Interstate Highway] 275 or [I-]696 for those who know the Detroit area — they know that the Democrat Party has disenfranchised them over generations," Bergman said during an appearance on "Wake Up America."

"The latest of that is what you're seeing in the Arab-American community, which is located right there just to the west of downtown Detroit," he said. "They're not happy because they feel that the Democrats have lied to them, said one thing and done something else."

Bergman said that Michiganders who show up to the polls on Tuesday "are going to vote for [former President Donald] Trump, pure and simple."

"People are energized because of, number one, what he stands for, and that's freedom," Bergman said. "People don't like to hear that. In some cases, they want to deal in personalities. But he stands for individual freedom, which is what is guaranteed. Our rights come from God, not from the government. The point is, you have a guy who's giving it all for his last however many years, and we need him back in the White House."

Asked if the 2024 presidential election is one of the most important in United States history, Bergman said, "I do, because you have to look at … what are the world issues, what are the issues on the world stage, however you want to put it, and how is the United States viewed on the world stage?

"We look at what's going on in the world over the last four years, since the first Trump administration, of the aggressive behavior, whether it be from Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and other would-be malign actors, they feel as though they can do anything they want because there's no leadership in the White House," he said. "And this is an important election because what you're looking at is, are you voting for four years of Donald Trump or eight years of [Vice President] Kamala Harris? Can we survive as a country eight years of Democrat — it's about as best as I can clean this up — feckless policies that don't meet our needs as Americans to not only thrive economically, but be viewed as positive on the world stage?"
