Rep. Comer to Newsmax: Harris Faces a 'Lot of Questions' on Biden Cover-Up

By    |   Wednesday, 29 October 2025 08:21 AM EDT

Former Vice President Kamala Harris should face questions about what she knew about former President Joe Biden's mental and physical health and whether she played a role in concealing his condition during his final months in office, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer told Newsmax on Wednesday.

"I think Kamala Harris has a lot of questions she needs to answer with respect to what she knew about Joe Biden's mental and physical health, and what she knew about Dr. [Kevin] O'Connor and others trying to mislead the American people about the true condition of Joe Biden," the Kentucky Republican said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America."

His comments came after the Oversight Committee on Tuesday released its report alleging that staff in Biden's White House improperly used an autopen machine to sign official documents, including pardons and executive orders, during his final weeks in office.

Investigators say there is no evidence that Biden personally approved many of the documents and suggest the actions may have been part of a broader effort to conceal his cognitive decline from Congress and the public.

Comer said Harris and Biden's top aides "shielded the president from even his Cabinet," making it impossible for administration officials to act under the 25th Amendment as Biden's condition worsened.

"You've heard Cabinet officials like [former Secretary of Transportation] Pete Buttigieg admit that they didn't see Joe Biden for months toward the end of his presidency," he said. "This inner circle of bureaucrats and close family members shielded the president from even his Cabinet."

The Cabinet, Comer noted, "would have been the ones that should have stepped up and made the decision to invoke the 25th Amendment."

Congress faces limits in compelling testimony from a former vice president, Comer conceded, but he said the Department of Justice could still press Harris and others for answers.

The chair also said the investigation found, in addition to the "unauthorized use of the autopen by the Biden staffers," that Biden's "cognitive decline" was covered up.

"Staffers admitted that they talked about giving the president a cognitive test, but ultimately declined to do that," he said.

Comer added that O'Connor, as the White House physician, could have shed light on Biden's health but instead was "hiding behind the Fifth Amendment" and should be compelled by the Justice Department to give full answers.

Beyond Biden's health, Comer said investigators also uncovered evidence that White House staff improperly used the autopen on legal documents and presidential pardons during Biden's lame-duck period.

"There were no notes of any meetings where Joe Biden participated in any of the decision-making with respect to the pardons and the executive orders that were signed with the autopen," Comer said.

"None of the staffers who actually put the documents in the autopen ever saw or heard directly from Joe Biden," he added.

The Oversight Committee has recommended that those pardons be declared null and void, Comer said, citing a lack of evidence that Biden personally authorized them.
