Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., told Newsmax on Wednesday that he is currently compiling a "hot list" of waste he and his colleagues have discovered recently and giving it to Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk so that their new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) can get off to a quick start.
Lankford, who is one of the founding members of the DOGE caucus and is leading the introduction of a legislative package targeting government waste related to COVID-19, told "Wake Up America" that the search for such government waste should not be a partisan issue, but something that Democrats and Republicans work on together.
The senator emphasized that "we are now compiling all [this wasteful spending], getting them to the president, to Vivek and Elon Musk and saying 'here is a hot list, so take what you can do in the executive branch and we will do what we can do in the legislative branch, and let's move this from "it needs to be done" to "done.'"
Lankford added that he has also spoken with whistleblowers among federal employees who are talking about inefficiencies so that those can be eliminated.
In addition, he said he has spoken to other government employees who have contacted us, and told us, for example, about large purchases near the end of the year that are "just wasteful."
The senator declared, so "here is the challenge. We've got folks that know what's actually happening that are on the ground. We are inviting them to come help us to fix the problem, because they are taxpayers as well."
