Rep. Moskowitz to Newsmax: Gaza Rebuild Should Expand Abraham Accords

By    |   Tuesday, 04 February 2025 08:40 PM EST

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Tuesday that the United States should help broker a Gaza reconstruction deal by expanding the Abraham Accords, but it should not be responsible for funding it.

Moskowitz, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the remarks during an appearance on "The Record With Greta Van Susteren," where he discussed the future of Gaza following the destruction caused by the ongoing conflict with Israel.

"I think those questions are still undecided," Moskowitz said when asked who will oversee and pay for Gaza's rebuilding. "I don't think the United States has responsibility to pay for it, but I do think we should be at the table with other nations in the area."

He pointed to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as potential financial contributors to Gaza's reconstruction but said the U.S. role should focus on diplomacy.

"I don't think that's going to fall on the United States," he said. "But I do think the United States should be the one to broker the deal. And I think we should do that through the Abraham Accords, and looking to expand the Abraham Accords, obviously, by bringing Saudi Arabia into the fold.

"Until we get the remainder of the hostages out and until we get some sort of agreement that Hamas is not going to be a part of any future deal over there, this is putting the cart before the horse," he added.

Addressing skepticism about Arab nations stepping in to assist in rebuilding efforts, Moskowitz argued that their involvement should be seen as an obligation to Palestinians, not a favor to Israel.

"They don't have to do it for Israel. They should be doing it for the Palestinian people," he said.

"I mean, let's be clear: They're not going to be doing Israel a favor. They're going to be doing a favor to the Palestinian people ... as the president said, you know, Gaza is just rubble, and that's Hamas' fault.

"If we want to have a place for the Palestinians where they can live in peace and security and prosperity like the president talks about, I think that also needs to include Iran not having a nuclear weapon," Moskowitz said.

"I think at this moment, what should happen is the president should give Iran 90 days to dismantle their nuclear program, or he should bury their program in the sand. I think President Trump has a unique opportunity right now.

"If he wants peace in the Middle East, I think he should set a red line right now and make it a prerequisite that before we do anything — before we talk about Gaza, the Palestinian people, and the future — the first thing we have to talk about is dismantling Iran's nuclear program," he said.

"If they do that, there should be some economic benefit to them. If they don't, I think the president should bury their program."
