Rep. Van Drew to Newsmax: Biden Administration Drone Response 'Inept'

By    |   Saturday, 14 December 2024 02:09 PM EST

The Biden administration is showing it is "inept" with the lack of response to the drone sightings over areas of the East Coast and overseas military bases, Rep. Jeff Van Drew told Newsmax on Saturday.

"[We're] the most powerful nation on the face of the Earth, supposedly, and we don't know what they are," the New Jersey Republican told Newsmax's "Saturday Report." "We don't know where they're from. We don't know what they're carrying. We don't know what their mission is. We know nothing at all."

There have been multiple reports of sightings in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, and military officials have also confirmed reports of drones over bases in the United Kingdom and Germany.

"This is not one isolated sighting," said Van Drew. "It's really important to know that people of good repute, solid individuals who are in law enforcement or the military or retired military or just a host of people who have seen these things."

Some of the drones, he added, are over residential areas, while others are "over highly sensitive areas that we obviously want to make sure are protected."

Van Drew noted that Public Service Electric and Gas, from his district in Salem County, New Jersey, where a nuclear plant is located, has seen "two dozen large drones" circling the area.

"For the first time in the history of PSEG at that nuclear plant, they've had to ask for flight restrictions because nobody can tell them what they are, where they're from, and what they want to do," said Van Drew. "This is serious stuff."

He compared it to the Chinese balloon incident in 2023, where the balloon was allowed to travel across the country before it was taken down as it was leaving.

"Some of these drones need to be taken down so we can find out what their origin is, what they're carrying on them, what they are about, what their purpose is, who's responsible," said Van Drew.

Van Drew said he sounded the alarm about the drones, and now some information is coming out from White House national security spokesperson John Kirby is coming out.

"They were almost making light of the fact that there are large ships that Iran has, the Russia has, that China has" that are able to transport drones, he added.

Those countries are a "full decade" ahead of the United States on drone technology, said Van Drew.

"That's not my imagination," he said. "They're real concerned in Israel because they didn't realize how far they've gone with their technology."

Van Drew said he won't quit pushing on the matter, "because Americans deserved the right to know."

President-elect Donald Trump has called for the drones to be shot down, and Van Drew said he agrees.

"We need to take some of these down, and we need to break them down," he said. "Once we take them down to find out where they're from, what they're about, and learn a lot more. We haven't done that. Nobody has even spoken about it. That is mind-boggling to me. The whole issue is unbelievable."
