Jeffrey Lord to Newsmax: DirecTV Move Not Surprising Given Obama, Clinton Ties

By    |   Wednesday, 15 February 2023 06:18 PM EST

Jeffrey Lord says it's not surprising that DirecTV pushed Newsmax off of its platform considering AT&T's ties to former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

"This board consists of eight members, when you've got three of them tied to President Clinton and one tied to both President Clinton and President Obama and then others who were Democratic donors, shocking that they would use AT&T to knock off the fourth-most popular channel on cable," Lord, a contributing editor to the American Spectator and a former aide to Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp, told Newsmax TV's "Chris Salcedo Show" on Wednesday.

"I mean this is who these people are, and I think their stockholders are going to start to be more than very curious about this because it's their money that's going down the drain here," he added.

DirecTV dropped Newsmax on Jan. 24.

AT&T's stock has fallen by almost 7% since then.

Lord says that means the American people "and Newsmax viewers in particular, are paying attention.

"And they're not just going to sit here on their hands and let this be done to them," he said. "I mean, the American people are pretty sharp; they have responded in other instances, I think notably, and I've mentioned this before, to Rush Limbaugh when there was a move in 2012 to get him off the air, I wrote a 'Rally for Rush' column with the American Spectator. I listed the names of all the executives, their snail mail address for their company, their e-mail, their phone numbers, etcetera. They were swamped with outraged Rush fans that put an end to it."

Newsmax has been alerting its supporters about AT&T's decision through its network, the fourth highest-rated cable news channel, reaching 25 million Americans, according to Nielsen.

Newsmax also reaches more than 40 million Americans through significant online platforms, apps, its social media network, as well as radio and print outlets.

DirecTV claimed both Newsmax and OAN were removed as "cost-cutting" measures.
