Jim Jordan to Newsmax: Judges Acting Like President of US

By    |   Tuesday, 03 June 2025 09:59 AM EDT

U.S. District Court judges "acting like they're the president of the United States" need to be stopped, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Newsmax on Tuesday.

Several hours before the Senate Judiciary Committee prepared to hold an afternoon hearing on the supposedly "least dangerous branch," Jordan appeared on Newsmax's "Wake Up America" and said nationwide injunctions need to be reined in.

"I think we should look at every avenue possible to try to stop these judges from acting like they're the president of the United States," Jordan told co-hosts Sharla McBride and Marc Lotter.

"So, as you know, we passed legislation which says if a federal district judge issues an injunction, the injunction doesn't apply nationwide. It simply applies to the parties in the case in that respective jurisdiction. We think that's just good common sense. In fact, even [Supreme Court] Justice [Elena] Kagan, not a conservative justice, even she said a few years ago, we need to rein this in."

Although nationwide injunctions are not new, Democrats have been seeking them often to stop President Donald Trump's agenda on several issues, most notably with trying to deport dangerous illegal migrants.

"It's getting out of control," Jordan said of the use of injunctions. "And it seems like if you look at the numbers, [it] disproportionately impacted executive actions that President Trump has taken.

"So, we pass that out of committee. We pass it out of the House. The best thing the Senate can do is pass the bill and put on the president's desk and deal with it. But short of that, you're probably right. There's probably this thing is going to get settled, probably in the Supreme Court, like a lot of other issues that you see in the court system right now."

Such a bill passing the Senate is a long shot with Republicans currently holding a slim 53-47 majority.
