Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., said Wednesday on Newsmax that he does not expect any Senate Democrats to vote for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation as health secretary, casting doubt on bipartisan support for the nominee.
Sen. Kennedy said he would be "very surprised" if any Democrats supported Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, signaling a challenging confirmation process ahead for the Trump nominee.
Speaking on "Finnerty," Kennedy dismissed the idea that Democratic senators such as John Fetterman of Pennsylvania might support the nomination.
"I don’t think any Democrats will vote for him," Kennedy said. "I mean, I can’t predict the future. I have to wait for it like everybody else. But based on the questions that my Democratic colleagues asked today, I’ll be very surprised if he gets any Democratic votes."
RFK Jr. appeared before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday for his first confirmation hearing and is scheduled to testify before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee on Thursday, The Hill reported.
With the Senate narrowly divided, RFK Jr. can afford to lose no more than three Republican votes if all Democrats oppose him.
