Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, asserted Monday that members of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riots on Capitol Hill should "absolutely" go to jail if they committed crimes, telling Newsmax they "should not get off scot-free."
At issue is that the House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight has accused the Jan. 6 panel of withholding evidence, with President-elect Donald Trump recently suggesting they destroyed evidence. Further, former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, who served on the panel, has been accused of efforts to tamper with witness testimony.
"They should not get off scot-free. And absolutely they should go to jail," Self said on "The Chris Salcedo Show."
"Chris, we are a nation of laws. It's one of the fundamental principles of the United States. All men are equal before the law. And yet, we know under the Biden administration that all men are not equal under the law," Self told Salcedo. "The Hunter Biden pardon is basically to protect the Biden crime family. Our viewers need to understand laws are made to be obeyed. If they need to be changed, that's Congress' and the state legislatures' duty.
"But if the law is on the books and it includes jail time, absolutely. You take them before a jury of their peers, you convict them, and send them to jail," he added.
