Father Leo Patalinghug, founder of PlatingGrace.com, told Newsmax Wednesday that the rare confluence of Christmas Day and the start of Hanukkah shows how miracles bind the faiths of Christianity and Judaism.
"For our Jewish brothers and sisters, they light the menorah because they know that in the midst of the darkness, God will provide the oil for the lamps," Patalinghug told "Newsline." "And we just concluded lighting the four candles of the advent wreath, knowing that God does give us light.
"And we believe that Christ, who enlightens us about who God is, we share a common basis in that whenever there is darkness, and there is darkness in the world, we have the light of faith that helps us to see things through."
Patalinghug said he is hopeful that people will learn to be companions with one another during this Christmas season.
"And I like that word [companion] because it comes from the Latin words 'companis,' which means 'with bread,'" Patalinghug said. "When we share bread with one another, we become more like Christ, who was born in Bethlehem, a city that is literally a meaning of 'house of bread.'
"So we've got to learn how to eat with each other here on Earth because if we don't, we might not like heaven, the heavenly feast, when we're supposed to eat as one family of God."
