Retired NYPD Detective Bo Dietl told Newsmax Wednesday he is outraged people, including college professors, have expressed their support for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down the CEO of UnitedHealthcare.
"What upsets the heck out of me … is professors from the University of [Pennsylvania] and they're, like, congratulating him for doing this," Dietl said on "National Report." "I mean, this is so ridiculous as far as I'm concerned — with these college professors now supporting what this kid did. I'm just outraged about it."
Dietl said there is a lot of evidence, including DNA, that links Mangione to the crime.
"Everything's starting to unfold," Dietl said. "Now you have to look for a motive, means, and opportunity. Everything is now falling in place. This is the person that did it. The reasoning behind it is there. It all adds up — why this person wanted this gentleman killed."
Dietl said the NYPD's top detectives are working on the case.
"They did a great job. Now it's a puzzle," Dietl said. "They don't have the wrong guy. They have the right guy. Every aspect of this is fitting into place."
The retired detective believes Mangione simply lost himself, especially dealing with chronic back pain.
"He just lost it completely," Dietl said.
