Rep. Alford to Newsmax: Omar's Comments Delusional Hate Speech

By    |   Monday, 29 January 2024 09:23 PM EST

Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., told Newsmax's "Rob Schmitt Tonight" on Monday that Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar's recent remarks were 'delusional hate speech.'

Omar delivered the controversial statement to a Somali American audience and said she is in Congress to represent Somali Americans' interests and that the "U.S. will do what we want and nothing else." The translations were made by an independent researcher. Schmitt did note that Newsmax was not able to independently verify the translation.

The Missouri Republican slammed his fellow congressperson and dismissed the notion that any U.S. Representative would hold allegiances above that of the United States. "I represent all Republicans, Democrats, agnostics, independents, but we're all Americans. We all bleed red, white, and blue."

"We are here to do a job for the American people. Not the Somali people, not the Somali government," Alford continued.

Omar brushed off the criticism and blamed the translation saying, "It's not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn't expect more from these propagandists," Omar wrote in response to the researcher's post. "I pray for them and for their sanity."

Alford was unmoved by Omar's rebuttal and said, "This is the very thing that the left, woke, broke, liberal mob has done. They have tried to divide us with DEI [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion] and CRT [Critical race theory] and they have succeeded on some points."

The controversial statements were brought to public light courtesy of video shared on X by Somaliland's deputy minister of foreign affairs. Omar spoke about the unrecognized state's deal with Ethiopia, which Somalia alleges infringes on its territory.

Alford concluded saying that Omar is off base by trying to tribalize the United States, "What happened to the melting pot? The greatness of America is that we are a fabric made up of all these unique fibers that come together as a nation to be strengthened by not our diversity but by what we have in common."
