Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., told Newsmax on Wednesday he does not want the U.S. get bogged down in another endless war.
Alford, appearing on "Newsline," said he agreed with President-elect Donald Trump, who said the U.S. should stay out of the ongoing crisis in Syria.
"President Trump is very spot-on this," Alford said. "We've got to stay out of Syria. We do not need another endless war. Let's let Israel take care of this. They have bombed many of the armament depots there in Syria.
"They have temporarily taken some ground in Syria to provide a buffer zone, so they don't get targeted by the jihadist Islamist terrorists who want to do them harm. We don't need that. We don't need more terrorist groups firing missiles like Hezbollah has done."
Israel struck most of Syria's strategic weapons arsenal since the ouster of President Bashar Assad, the IDF announced on Tuesday, preventing them from falling into the hands of Islamic terrorists.
The military confirmed earlier reports that the Israeli Air Force conducted more than 350 aerial strikes, with hundreds of hours of flight time logged over Syrian airspace. The targets included anti-aircraft batteries, Syrian Air Force airfields, and dozens of weapons production sites in Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, and Palmyra.
Strategic weapons were neutralized, including Scud tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, surface-to-sea, surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, drones, fighter jets, attack helicopters, radar systems, tanks, and hangars.
Alford said the U.S. must be careful about how it gets involved.
"Let's let Israel take care of their new neighbors to the northeast of Golan Heights," he said.
