Mark Teixeira told Newsmax on Friday that a surprise Oval Office call from President Donald Trump reinforced his decision to run for Congress.

He said more than ever he wanted to advance Trump’s agenda and turn his executive orders into law.

During an appearance on "Greg Kelly Reports," Teixeira described the call as "a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life."

"We spoke for over five minutes."

Recounting how it began, Teixeira said, "I got a call from Congressman Brian Jack," and quoted him as saying, "'Mark, I've got the president in the Oval Office. He wants to talk to you.'"

Teixeira said, "President Trump, he was funny. He told some great stories."

He added, "We talked about baseball," and "we talked about Texas."

He also said Trump raised Capitol Hill relationships, telling Kelly they discussed "different members of Congress that he [Trump] wants me to work with."

Describing Trump's message, Teixeira said, "When he told me, he said, 'Mark, I'm so excited to work with you in Washington,'" and added, "I got chills down my spine."

He then argued, "President Trump's agenda is working."

Teixeira said, "We have to continue to solidify all of his executive orders. We need to codify these executive orders."

Teixeira launched a campaign for Texas' 21st Congressional District after Rep. Chip Roy said he would give up the seat to run for attorney general.

Regarding the size and difficulty of the race, the Cook Political Report's description of TX-21 calls it a "solidly red seat" with Roy leaving to run for attorney general, and the San Antonio Report has described the district as a "deep-red" seat with a crowded GOP primary field.

As for challengers, the San Antonio Report has identified multiple Republican contenders competing alongside Teixeira, including Kyle Sinclair, a hospital executive who previously served as vice chair of the Republican Party of Bexar County.

“I know Mark well, and he is a TOTAL WINNER, on and off the field! An MLB All-Star, Mark’s career was ‘loaded up’ with Accolades and WINS, including five Gold Gloves, three Silver Sluggers, and a World Series Championship,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday.

Returning to his argument for codifying executive actions, Teixeira said, "The Biden administration created a complete mess for four years. When I'm in Washington next January as a member of Congress, I'm going to help him [Trump] clean that up."
