Whoever is named the next Senate Majority Leader needs to ensure President-elect Donald Trump's agenda is enacted, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Tuesday.
Blackburn appeared on "Newsline" ahead of a leadership forum featuring the three candidates – Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., Senate Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.
"What we need is a leader who is going to say the imperative is to get Donald Trump's agenda across the finish line and signed into law," Blackburn said. "And we should work diligently. We should work quickly on that. So, I'm going to see who has a game plan and is ready to put that game plan in place. That is exactly what we need to have happen."
With Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, vacating his seat to become vice president and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., vacating his seat to become secretary of state, there are two other Senate seats that will need to be filled.
"I'm already on record supporting Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio," Blackburn said. "I think that that would be wonderful. "In Florida. I like the idea of Lara Trump, who did a superb job working with the RNC, making certain that people got out to the polls early and that they voted. I think she would be a fabulous senator for the state of Florida."
Blackburn said it is important everyone works to get Trump's agenda across the finish line.
"His agenda is what the American people overwhelmingly voted for," Blackburn said. "We have a mandate. We need to get to work quickly."
