Matt Schlapp criticized Tuesday on Newsmax the impact of mail-in and drop-box voting on U.S. elections, calling them a "cancer" on American politics.
Schlapp, chair of the American Conservative Union and a former White House adviser, strongly criticized the extended timeline for tabulating mail-in and drop-box ballots in U.S. elections during an appearance on "The Chris Salcedo Show."
"This mail-in and drop-box phenomenon is a cancer on our politics here in America," Schlapp said, pointing to the slow process as a deviation from other democratic nations. He noted that recent elections in the European Union provided results on the same night, contrasting with states such as Arizona and Nevada that can take days to complete results because of the signature verification processes required for mail-in ballots.
"They actually have good laws on signature verification because they have so much illegal immigration," Schlapp said.
While acknowledging those laws' intent, he argued the sheer volume of mail-in ballots has overcomplicated the system.
He suggested the U.S. could simplify elections by following practices standard in other democracies.
"What the rest of the democracies in the world realized a long time ago is to have paper ballots and vote in person," he said. "Even France seems to be able to figure this out. What the heck is wrong with us?"
