Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Thursday that "it was awesome" to see Republicans move to kill the bipartisan continuing resolution put forward by Democrat and Republican leaders in Congress, describing the legislation as "a monstrosity."
President-elect Donald Trump, his top adviser Elon Musk, and many other members of the GOP have come out against the continuing resolution proposed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., earlier this week that would keep the government funded through March.
Cloud, a member of the House Oversight Committee, told "Newsline" that "when we left town, we understood the conversation was going to be that this was going to be a stopgap, clean [continuing resolution] that gets us into the Trump administration, helps out those in disaster areas from the hurricane, helps out some of our farmers that are in dire straits."
He added, "And then when we came back" from the Thanksgiving break, "it was a monstrosity that's a typical hodgepodge D.C. swamp Christmas tree."
Cloud said, "And from a process standpoint, it was something that … the elected members were not involved in the discussions at all. And so this was back to the D.C. swamp games that we promised we were going to correct."
The Texas Republican added, "It was awesome to see. I have to say, when we woke up this morning, we knew some of us people who vote conservative were going to be against the bill. But to see the American people rise up and to have their voice heard and for it to make a difference in Washington D.C., it was remarkable."
