The main message coming out of the House Republican annual policy retreat in Florida this week is that GOP lawmakers are united and willing to work together with President Donald Trump to implement his vast agenda, Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley told Newsmax on Wednesday.
Whatley, appearing on "Wake Up America", said that the big takeaway from the gathering at Trump National Doral near Miami "is the fact that the Republican Congress is ready to work with Donald Trump to implement this agenda."
He added that "the president was [at Trump National Doral]. J.D. Vance was here as the vice president and the message was unity."
Whatley acknowledged that "the fact is that there are going to be big legislative hurdles that we need to overcome. We need the House caucus to play a leadership role. Speaker Mike Johnson has been doing a great job of working with the president's team getting those details in place. They have a lot of details they will have to hammer out."
But he emphasized that "the message is we have an agenda and we need to move forward. The American people expect no less."
Whatley stressed that "Trump ran on a very forward-leaning agenda, it is a common-sense agenda for America and it starts with restoring the southern border and rebuilding our economy."
He added that the agenda is going to "focus on making sure our communities are safe and making sure we are strong enough as a country to protect ourselves and our allies around the world."
Whatley reiterated that "right now the world is waking up to a new America, and we are going to be strong and we are going to protect our interests."
