Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., told Newsmax that Secretary of State Antony Blinken played a critical role in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Joining "The Record with Greta Van Susteren" on Monday, Johnson highlighted then-campaign adviser Blinken's alleged role behind an infamous letter signed by 51 current-or-retired intel officials that questioned the laptop.
"Party operatives got together, and they created a fake narrative, and then they suppressed all dissent about the narrative," Johnson explained, "and they got the media to go along with it, and then they promoted the key lie peddlers — the top administration positions in the Biden administration when he ultimately won."
"The top of the pile was Antony Blinken himself, the secretary of state," he continued. "It is an extraordinary story. And if this is true, and we believe it is ... it is a huge story."
It comes one week after House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan sent a letter to Blinken revealing new testimony alleging his involvement.
The Ohio Republicans' letter details that Mike Morell, former Central Intelligence Agency acting director, testified under oath that Blinken was the intel community letter's original "impetus."
Later, onetime Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe spoke with Fox News and said that the intelligence community was aware of the laptop's legitimacy before the officials denounced it.
"By the sheer numbers and volume, it would be one of the largest political cover-ups in U.S. history," Johnson emphasized. "And the president of the United States was directly involved in it. He obviously knew."
Johnson also believes the new revelations will make Americans further distrust the Federal Bureau of Intelligence, CIA, and the DNI's office.
"How are they to be trusted now?" he asked.
In the days since the news broke, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., have called on Blinken to resign over the alleged involvement.
