Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., told Newsmax on Thursday that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump will unify not just Republicans, but America, when he delivers his reworked speech later tonight on the final night of the Republican National Convention.
"Donald Trump literally took a bullet for our country," Mace said during an appearance on "Wake Up America." "I don't know how anyone can not be changed after that. And I was excited to hear that he ripped up his speech. He rewrote it, and it is going to unify not just the Republican Party, but unify a nation."
"I will tell you, I come from a purple district. In the moments, minutes and hours after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, I heard from people all across the political spectrum," she said. "People were literally pulling their cars over to the side of the road, stopping traffic, getting out and wanted to have a conversation."
"We're talking about Democrats, Republicans, Black Americans, white Americans, everyone," she continued. "And everyone has had so many positive things to say. Not just the entire country will be watching tonight — I believe watching Donald Trump — the world will be watching Donald Trump tonight and give the speech that is most needed right now."
Calling the former president "a man of the moment," Mace said Trump has "resilience" and "courage," and is "going to help lead our nation, through his strength, out of the chaos and crisis we're all suffering from today."
Mace also said that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle should "leave the convention immediately, get back to Washington and start investigating" Saturday's assassination attempt on Trump.
"I'm on the Oversight Committee, so I'll be participating in the hearing at 10 a.m. on Monday and I hope she shows up," she said. "So far, we've had difficulty getting briefings on time from the Secret Service."
