California Gov. Gavin Newsom is pushing a program that is “very progressive, anti-American, anti-California, and definitely anti-Huntington Beach,” says Huntington Beach Mayor Pat Burns.
“That guy is so shameful. … He's just a poor representative. He's out to push his agenda rather than community service,” Burns said Saturday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Saturday Agenda.”
“He's self-service and I think he's a tyrant. And he's sitting there saying, ‘We need housing. We have a shortage of housing, and we have a budget deficit.’ But yet he lets in a bunch of illegal aliens, open border almost. And he's giving them free food, free housing, free phones and medical.
“And now I think they're trying to give him help to buy houses. And I'm all for coming and making your life better. But do it the legal way or you're illegal,” added Burns.
Newsom’s office is in the process of creating a “network” to help counter efforts by President-elect Donald Trump to crack down on illegal immigration.
The plan, titled “Immigrant Support Network Concept,” according to a draft obtained by Politico, is a proposal to establish an "Immigrant Support Network composed of regional ‘hubs’ to connect at-risk individuals, their families, and communities with community systems — such as legal services, schools, labor unions, local governments, etc."
Burns said Newsom is “basically enabling them” and “assisting in an illegal act.
“And I don't know why the feds don't go after those policies and stuff as illegal acts, and it's not helping us,” he said.
